Borehole Drilled in Nampirika, Nakalama, Iganga
A 62-metre borehole with a hand pump serving 196 households and the village primary school. Handed over April 2025.
Before
The community drew water from a seasonal stream, a seventy-five minute walk each way with a fifty-five minute wait at the source. In the dry season the stream failed entirely and households bought from a vendor.
Siting
A resistivity survey identified two candidate points. The district water officer approved the western one before any rig moved, which is the sequence we follow everywhere — the approval is part of the record, not a formality applied afterwards.
What was built
Drilled to 62 metres through overburden into weathered basement. Steel casing, gravel pack, six hours of development until the water ran clear, then an India Mark II hand pump on a concrete apron with a drainage channel.
After
Yield measured 2,400 litres per hour at completion, after development rather than during drilling. The walk is now eight minutes and the queue twelve. Nine committee members completed the two-day maintenance training and hold a signed handover certificate with the drilling log attached.

Nine members completed the two-day maintenance training. The handover certificate was signed on site, with the drilling log and water test attached.Water test returned clear
Nil coliforms, pH 6.9, iron 0.2 mg/l. The certificate is published against this water point in the register.Drilling completed at 62 m
Overburden to 31 m, then weathered basement. Casing and gravel pack installed; development ran six hours until the water ran clear.Siting approved by the district
The resistivity survey identified two candidate points. The district water officer approved the western one; the eastern point sat too close to a latrine block.
