[DEMO] Nabweru spring protection
Capping an existing spring so surface runoff stops contaminating it. Under construction, due September 2026.
€2,100 / €3,600
The problem is not the water
The spring already flows year round and the walk is only twenty-five minutes. The problem is what reaches it: cattle upslope and runoff after rain, which is why the households here report diarrhoea in the wet season and not the dry one.
What protection means
A masonry headwall and outlet pipe so water is collected before it touches the ground, a cut-off drain uphill of the eye to divert runoff, and a fenced exclusion zone.
Cost per person
This is the cheapest intervention we do per person served, and it is only available where a reliable spring already exists — which is why we survey for one before proposing a borehole.
