Drilling 30 Boreholes in Busoga Sub-Region, Eastern Uganda

Three lined hand-dug wells where the water table sits near the surface. Surveyed and costed; not yet funded.

When a shallow well is the right answer

Where the water table is within twenty metres and the overburden is stable, a lined hand-dug well costs a fraction of a drilled borehole and can be repaired with materials available in the district. Three wells here serve the same population one borehole would, at less than half the cost and with no imported spare parts.

What is already done

The borehole sites have been identified and agreed upon in consultation with the relevant sub-county authorities. Community consultations and meetings have also been completed, confirming the urgent need for safe and reliable water. The proposed sites have been assessed, and the drilling work has been costed.

What is missing

Funding is the key requirement to move the project forward. Implementation will begin once the necessary funding has been confirmed and secured. No commitments have been made to the communities regarding the start of construction until funding is in place.
